Sizing Guide

Sizing is a hard part of the surplus market as US to EU sizing is much different. Down below is a simple explanation and chart to help you see what size is best.

How NATO & British Army Sizing Works

NATO sizes are made up of 6-digit numbers, which represent metric cm sizing for different parts of the body. 

They are structured as below:

NATO/British Army Jackets & Shirt Sizes

With shirts and jackets, NATO sizes will be displayed as ‘xxx/yy’ where ‘xxx’ is your full height in cms (not the length of the garment) and ‘yy’ is your chest size in cms.

‘xxx’ = Full height in cms ‘yy’ = Chest size in cms

NATO / British Army Trouser Sizes

Trousers are sized as ‘xx/yy/zz’ where ‘xx’ is your waist size in cms, ‘yy’ is inner leg size in cms and ‘zz’ is seat size in cms.


‘xx’ = Waist size in cms ‘yy’ = Inner leg size in cms ‘zz’ = Seat size in cms

U.S. Military Clothing Sizing Guide

The U.S. military uses a standardized sizing system to ensure a proper fit for a wide range of body types. Below is a breakdown of key measurements and how to select your size based on this system.

Tops (Jackets, Shirts, and Coats)

Military tops are sized by chest measurement and height categories.

  • Chest Measurements:

    • X-Small: 29–32 inches
    • Small: 33–36 inches
    • Medium: 37–40 inches
    • Large: 41–44 inches
    • X-Large: 45–48 inches
    • XX-Large: 49–52 inches

  • Height Categories:

    • Short (S): Height up to 5'6"
    • Regular (R): Height 5'7" to 5'11"
    • Long (L): Height 6'0" to 6'3"
    • X-Long (XL): Height 6'4" and above

Example Size: Medium Regular (37–40" chest, height 5'7" to 5'11")

Bottoms (Trousers and Pants)

Military bottoms are sized by waist and inseam measurements.

  • Waist Measurements:

    • X-Small: 23–27 inches
    • Small: 27–31 inches
    • Medium: 31–35 inches
    • Large: 35–39 inches
    • X-Large: 39–43 inches
    • XX-Large: 43–47 inches

  • Inseam Lengths:

    • Short (S): 26.5 to 29.5 inches
    • Regular (R): 29.5 to 32.5 inches
    • Long (L): 32.5 to 35.5 inches

Example Size: Medium Regular (31–35" waist, 29.5–32.5" inseam)
